President Donald Trump said on his website yesterday that the United States will make “a lot of money” from rising oil prices, noting that the country is “the world’s largest oil producer.”
His comments came at a critical time when tensions between the United States, Israel and Iran have escalated and global oil prices have surged above $100 a barrel.
Trump also said that stopping Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon is a much more important goal than short-term economic hardship and is a “very small sacrifice” for global security.
However, several U.S. politicians have sharply criticized his stance, noting that rising energy prices primarily benefit oil companies, while ordinary American households face the burden of high fuel and living costs.
